Please donate your energy rebate to #WarmCheltenham and we will make sure it gets to those who need support with their food and energy costs

by Communities Partnership in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, United Kingdom

Who we are:

#Warmcheltenham is a partnership of community-based organisations including:

  • Cheltenham Borough Homes
  • Cheltenham Borough Council
  • Cheltenham Food Bank
  • Springbank Community Group
  • Cornerstone Centre
  • West Cheltenham Partnership

Please note, this is a new crowdfunder that replaces a previous one. As Cheltenham Borough Homes are now managing any funds donated for #WarmCheltenham we have had to create a new crowdfunder page. All funds raised on the previous one are secure and have been passed onto CBH.

Over this winter we have all been receiving energy rebates.  If you don’t need it, please donate some of all of it to #WarmCheltenham and we will make sure it gets to those who desperately need support with their food and energy costs.

The money will be managed through our established network of food providers and community partners who have all committed to working together to support those that need it most. For more information about our #WarmCheltenham partners, please see this link

Together we will do all we can to ensure that the immediate needs of the Cheltenham community for warmth and food are met. As we move through winter and into spring, we know that people will still need ongoing help eg with managing household debt so our plan is to develop #warmcheltenham into #WarmWelcome to keep supporting people.

How does it work?

We will use the donations to:

  • Buy pre-paid electricity vouchers for people on pre-payment meters.
  • Buy food vouchers for people who are struggling so that money can be saved to spend on fuel
  • Provide small grants to the community organisations that are hosting warm spaces so that they can help their users whilst also helping them with their own running costs

Some stories from Cheltenham

One mum says, "I’m worried as to what will happen when winter sets in. I can’t afford to pay my bills now; I don’t want to think about what that will cost me in the winter."

Another mum says, "We are literally down to nothing, I made use of everything we were given last week and budgeted tightly for the week, and we just about got through by using up tins yesterday and have nothing left at all not even to make a meal for today. The fridge and freezer are empty, and my daughter has one nappy and Universal Credit won’t help as I owe money on my budgeting loan. I thought things were bad last week but they’re so much worse now. I can’t see how I can feed any of us at all."
