Aim: We aim to launch a free personal safety app named VigilAuntie at Newcastle Uni. It will help protect women and girls from abuse and assault.

Right to Resist (R2R) is a registered charity formed to help vulnerable people protect themselves and each other from abuse and assault.

Women and girls are at risk, particularly in public spaces when on a night out or returning from work or studying. If an incident occurs there is little a victim can do to protect themselves.

Until now.

Under the guidance of Lord John Stevens, former Chief of the Metropolitan Police, R2R has developed an innovative app named VigilAuntie which operates at a single touch of the icon.

VigilAuntie streams video live and records it in the cloud where it cannot be deleted. At the same time, up to five nominated friends and family instantly receive text messages with links to view the video along with location and other information.

So at a single click the app acts as a deterrent to a perpetrator, and alert to loved ones and as a means of gathering evidence for later use.

With your help VigilAuntie will be made available in the app stores completely free, with a launch at Newcastle University followed by a roll-out to other campuses and nationwide.
