On October 20th, I am running the Yorkshire Marathon to raise money for Jude and the Book Factory.

Jude and the Book Factory is about more than just books, it's a movement to inspire kids to read and share their passion for stories. Founded by Jude at the age of four with a simple idea to share his books, we've grown into a community of book lovers who believe that every child should have access to great literature.

Jude was a bright and fun-loving child, with a passion for dinosaurs and animals. Jude was diagnosed with High Risk Neuroblastoma, a type of cancer, the day before his third birthday. Jude died in September 2023. He never lost his cheeky sense of humor, and his love for life was contagious. He was a fan of Elton John and developed a love for dancing, theatre and became a real bookworm.

Since the beginning of Jude and the Book Factory, over 2400 brand new books distributed since October last year. Most of these brand new books have gone to children affected by cancer and those in hospital and hospice. They have also made donations to children affected by grief and food poverty.

Jude would pick out a book, label it and then go into full 007 mode as he set about creating the perfect book drop. A simple trip to the park, a day out at the beach, zoo, museum, a visit to the coffee shop or the supermarket, anywhere gave possibility.

As his parents continue what he started they pledge to continue his work but try to keep Jude at the centre by stepping into the mindset of a five year old with a dream. They support children affected by cancer, just like Jude had wanted.

There are currently over 1000 children signed up as “frends” of the Book Factory. These started very locally but quickly became international. "Frends" of Jude and the Book Factory have left thousands of books hidden all over the world for other children to find.

As of the 23rd August, Jude and the Book Factory had also donated £6435 to 5 charities. This amount does not include the money spent on hundreds of books bought, the extra items bought for the goody bags, the recent Grimm & Co. storymaking session for ‘frends’, the foodbank items, the carts for re-read, the crates for book donations, our postage and printing costs etc.

Please donate generously to help support the legacy that Jude started.
