What’s Via Ferrata?
# Iron Stairway # High Wire Bridge # Zip Wire
“So much more than just an adrenaline rush!!”
Are you ready for a unique challenge? Eager to develop your climbing skills as you traverse across our quarry walls, face your fears on the High Wire Bridge and leap from the clifftops soaring through the air on one of the most scenic zipline experiences in Cornwall? Then you’re in the right place!
Here is one of the first to try out our Iron Stairway:
Originating in the Alps during World War I, a Via Ferrata (meaning ‘iron path’ in Italian) is a protected climbing route built with metal steps, ladders, suspension bridges, zip wires and with a safety cable fixed to the rock. Built initially to enable troops to make their way through mountains, many routes have now been restored, creating a hugely popular adrenaline activity for thrill seekers!
Join us on the first full Via Ferrata Experience in the South of England:
Journeying across our old granite quarries over twenty metres high, you’ll conquer fears, push your limits, build confidence, do something unique, share an unforgettable experience and feel an incredible sense of achievement when you reach the summit.
Our 70m long High Wire Bridge:
You’ll kick off in the Adventure Zone and once you’ve got the hang of it, be let loose to enjoy the routes at your own pace (with qualified instructors around should you need them!), ending up back at the Goodygrane Café where you can treat yourself to a well-deserved coffee and some amazing cake! You’ll also enjoy gorgeous views over Falmouth bay and the Lizard peninsula and experience some of Cornwall's rich quarrying heritage (here's a bit of historic mining action!)
Spectators are welcome and they can sit back and relax at the Goodygrane Café, overlooking the Adventure Zone and High Wire Bridge or explore some of our stunning 60 acre site and cheer you on as you complete the classic route and soar back over Palestine Quarry on the Zip line.
Join Us - Crowdfunders
We have the funding in place to complete the routes and have already started the build BUT:
We want to share this incredible journey with you as we build the first Via Ferrata experience in the South of England and to make it the best in the world. Crowd funders will join our exclusive founders club, gaining early access to the course, get discounted entry and can even help us develop the experience as we grow.
Via Ferrata Cornwall is a Community Interest company launched by and based on the same site as charity BF Adventure, with all profits used to help disadvantaged Children & Young People. As well as pushing yourself, you’ll be helping these Young People to conquer their own challenges.
BF Adventure supports those suffering from multiple disadvantages; poverty; rural isolation; learning difficulties and/or physical difficulties; children in care, victims of crime, young carers and those with mental health concerns. BF Adventure uses its beautiful 60 acre site of heathland, woodland and flooded quarries to helping young people on a journey of change, enabling them via adventurous outdoor activities to identify their own social, emotional and physical barriers and to overcome these.

After all the challenge and exhilaration there’s nothing like a good piece of cake to celebrate your achievement! Goodygrane Café, our Community Café run in partnership with The Cornish Barista, is big on sourcing locally and offering work experience and training opportunities, particularly to the young people that BF Adventure supports through its charity work. So sit back, enjoy the stunning views overlooking the quarry and know that you’re making a real difference, with 10% of sales also going towards helping these young people.
Our Café will be open to all, so feel free to drop in even if you’re not up for the craziness of a Via Ferrata! Locals get free parking too.
We’re also developing a wild play area for kids aged 3-10, plus nature trails for the whole family to enjoy. Our remote site is full of amazing wildlife and has a diverse range of flora and fauna including the occasional red deer, offering the perfect opportunity to get back to nature!

Covid-19
The safety of our visitors and staff is our first priority and to ensure we minimise all risks and particularly those associated with the Coronavirus and Covid-19. We have adopted the following key approaches:
We are fortunate in that Via Ferrata is an activity that facilitates social distancing with all non-family participants maintaining a minimum 2 spacing upon the course, all participants are issued with a new pair of gloves, no close face to face contact with staff is required and all medical research shows that the open outdoor environment is of low risk for the spread of the virus.
BF Adventure and the Goodygrane Activity Centre has been open and operating throughout the current pandemic crisis offering support to Vulnerable young people, so the team are experienced at operating ‘covidsafe’ and we have adapted the site facilities and operating procedures to welcome more people back onsite once both the lockdown restrictions allow and it is safe to do so.
