There are millions of people around the world who are getting infected by COVID. COVID-19 doesn’t respect borders. To beat this virus, we have to see the bigger picture. We’ll only begin to recover from the pandemic when people in lower-income countries have access to vaccines, tests and treatments too. UNICEF is on a mission to deliver 2 billion vaccines, 5.6 million tests and 5.5 million treatments around the world this year. We are in it together.
Why cycle? 30 minutes a day or 150 minutes a week of cycling (or walking or running) decreases the risk of COVID infection by 31%, COVID death by 37%, and increases the effectiveness of the COVID vaccine significantly (UCL research).
We have to do all we can do to beat this deadly virus. I plan to cycle 1000 miles in 100 days to raise awareness, raise 1 pound per mile to help UNICEF provide vaccine, oxygen, whatever it takes to save lives.
Just £25 could provide 20 doses of COVID-19 vaccines to health workers, teachers or vulnerable people around the world. A £45 could help pay for an oxygen concentrator. A £50 donation could train all health workers in a health facility on administering the COVID-19 vaccines, tests and treatments.
The cycling starts on 30-Apr, guess what, it is Captain Tom's birthday as well := )
