We are a frontline medical aid NGO. Born of the NHS, we get life-saving health care to those who need it in times of crisis, conflict, and disaster.

UK-MED

Our Story

In 1988, a team of eight NHS clinicians travelled to Armenia to offer their services after an earthquake tore through the country: the first iteration of what would become UK-Med.

Three decades on, our register now comprises nearly 1,000 NHS and international nurses and doctors, logisticians, and humanitarian aid professionals, all committed to providing an on-call rota for emergency global health relief.

With crises becoming more frequent and severe, we also train local health staff, so that communities around the world are better prepared for future emergencies.

Key Facts

  • In the last year, we've responded in Ukraine, Turkey, Syria, Afghanistan, Somalia, Malawi, the Solomon Islands, and now Morocco.
  • In the same period, we've treated 35,000 patients and trained 11,000 medical staff.
  • As the only UK-based NGO to be accredited by the World Health Organisation as an Emergency Medical Team (EMT), we're able to deploy with 24 hours' notice.
