UCU UAL members- please give generously to our branch's solidarity collection for refuse workers in Birmingham, now on strike for 2 months.

by UCU UAL for Brum Bins in London, Greater London, United Kingdom

We're raising £750 for Unite members at Birmingham city council refuse collection, on indefinite strike since 11th March 2025. They're resisting horrific proposed cuts by the Labour run city council which is trying to cut the wages of around 170 of the lowest paid workers, by up to £7,000 a year.

As union members, many of you will know the hardship, worry and personal sacrifice for the collective cause that strike entails. It's crucial we show cross-union solidarity in this uncertain period, while councils and universities alike threaten prolonged austerity and ask us to bear the cost. Please give what you can to support these courageous workers and show our branch solidarity. If you can't give- please share with colleagues and branch members.

This collection has been organised by Frances Grahl on behalf of UAL UCU branch, as agreed at our LCF branch meeting. Anyone can donate- you don't have to be a UCU member or UAL staff. Your donations will be sent (by Frances Grahl) to the strike fund organised by the local Unite branch, as a donation from our UCU branch. If you have any questions, please contact [email protected].
