UBS Global Markets Fundraiser 2023

Well Grounded is an award-winning social enterprise, launched in 2016 to support the UK’s unemployed with the skills to access sustainable careers in coffee. We create social change by partnering with the coffee industry to provide opportunities for skilled, passionate and committed individuals to grow.

The impact of the pandemic and Brexit has been wide-reaching and complex, particularly on mental health and physical wellbeing. Whilst unemployment is relatively low, the decline in welfare services is resulting in more people at greater risk of long-term unemployment, with those classified as ‘long-term’ unemployed up 35% - the highest ever. Due to these contributing factors there has been an exodus of talent from the coffee industry. The race to find, nurture and support local talent has never been more urgent.

A new solution is needed - one that Well Grounded provides.

Our programmes empower individuals with the skills to thrive in life, covering technical coffee and hospitality qualifications, employability skills and access to sustainable job opportunities. Our Graduate Programme offers further development to help individuals progress in their careers.

In the last 7-years, we have supported:

• 442 people to complete our employability programmes with;
• 404 gaining an industry-recognised qualification and;
• 303 going into work, further education or training
• 81% of people who go into work, sustain employment for 6+ months

Our partnership with UBS has been truly special over the years, from supporting us with seed funding through to helping us launch our Community Cafe last year, which has now hosted 8 work placements, helping local people with new pathways into work.

The funds raised will cover:

• Technical training, including industry-recognised qualifications (Specialty Coffee Association Barista Foundation, Level 2 Customer Service and Food Safety)
• 1-2-1 job coaching including CV development, mock interview skills training and professional conduct
• Mentoring: weekly sessions focusing on personal areas of development, goal setting and confidence building
• Costs for course materials, online resources and travel for the individual to access our London training academy as well as covering their travel costs during work placement weeks

Global Markets is collaborating with UBS Community Impact partner, Well Grounded, to help raise £6,000 to transform the lives of two more people on the Well Grounded employability programme.

UBS Community Impact will match all donations made by Global Markets up to £6k.
