Over four weeks the University of Bristol Club are training in advance of the coming academic year, and we are hoping to fundraise for Somerset and Avon Rape and Sexual Abuse Support (SARSAS) and our club across this time period.

Almost a month before the majority of students arrive in the streets of Bristol, the members of UBBC have been returning to begin training on land and water twice a day, 6 days a week in an effort to start the season on best form. In previous years we have covered mileage comparable to the length of the River Nile and this year will be no different. The club will take to the rowing boats, ergometers, bicycles, and weights to rebuild the strength and speed required for the 2018/2019 season. On top of this a number of members will be taking part in half-marathons and several other events to push themselves further. All this to return to top form and fundraise for both the club itself and SARSAS.

SARSAS: Somerset and Avon Rape and Sexual Abuse Support provides support to victims of rape, sexual assault and abuse in the South West. 1 in 5 women over the age of 16 are sexually assaulted every week in the South West and on top of this many men, boys and girls are also sufferers. SARSAS are heavily reliant on donations and all contributions can go a long way to support victims. Unfortunately the University and even the Boat Club are not immune to such harm, and it will be dutiful to support an organisation that provides help to those who have suffered. Please follow the link to their website for more information: http://www.sarsas.org.uk/

We are proud at UBBC to offer a safe space for members to support one another and form lasting friendships. The vast amount time spent together as a club naturally forges strong connections between our members and this generates the uniquely compassionate environment we pride ourselves on. It is vital that as a club, a University society and members of the larger community we look out for one another and assist deserving charities in the local area such as SARSAS.

*We pledge that one half of all donations will be donated to SARSAS.
