Bridge: A MindSport for All
Bridge: A MindSport for All (BAMSA) is the new name for the Keep Bridge Alive Campaign.
Professor Samantha Punch announced the new name on 20 February 2020 at a Pro-Am event organised by the University of Stirling at the Stationers’ Hall in London. The gala evening featured a special appearance by celebrity television presenter, Victoria Coren Mitchell, and many professional bridge players who played pro-bono to help raise the profile of the project and raise funds. Among the elite players were national and international stars Sabine Auken (Germany), David Bakhshi (UK), Dennis Bilde (Denmark), Sally Brock (UK), Boye Brogeland (Norway), David Gold (UK), Fredrik Helness (Norway), Zia Mahmood (USA), Artur Malinowski (UK), Nicola Smith (UK) and Roy Welland (USA).
The Pro-Am event launched Bridge: A MindSport for All and raised £56,000. Thanks to the fundraising evening and to hundreds of crowdfunding donations, the University of Stirling will continue to host an ongoing programme of sociological research exploring interactions within the mindsport, wellbeing, transferable life skills, mental health and social connections.
