“It’s Turner’s syndrome.”
If it’s the first time you have ever heard the term you may find yourself overwhelmed. Whether it’s a loved one or yourself the doctor is talking about the words will still fall harsh on the ears.
Following that will be a plethora of medical terms, possible outcomes and a great list of all the things that could go wrong. You may find yourself overwhelmed.
I know when I first learned the true extent of having TS and the doctor told me I would never have children naturally the doctor’s office became like a prison I felt I would never leave. On his desk lay charts of my growth and notes on my general health over the years. I was about eleven years old and still finding myself in a lot of ways. Life was only just beginning. I had barely made it out of a decade of life and this was a huge setback. At least that was what I felt at the time.
That doctor’s office wasn’t a prison though. I could leave any time and outside waiting for me would be a whole world of opportunities. Those charts on his desk were to make sure I was receiving the best care. None of it was to hurt me. It was to make sure I grew (quite literally) to become the best I could be.
There have been many others in that exact same scenario and that is why Ragdolls UK exists. Its purpose is to be there for TS women and girls who are overwhelmed. They exist to show you are more than TS. Most importantly they are there to help you work through all that information and turn the fear into the strength required to advocate for the best treatment for you.
Ragdolls UK want to help TS girls and their families feel supported as they wade through the information they are given after diagnosis. Most importantly we want to raise awareness of this condition and advocate for the the best treatments possible.
