Black History Month @ Try Tag Rugby
Like the rest of the world we've watched events unfold over the past few months. During lockdown, and since our return to play, we've been considering how best to support the Black Lives Matter movement and those affected within our community. We have also been reflecting on what we have done as an organisation to confront racism and promote equality and know we can and must do more going forwards.
Today we announce step one in this effort, coinciding with Black History Month, which we want to take an active role in celebrating with our community for the first time. We do this acknowledging that we are at the start of a long journey to make our sport, and as a result our community, more equal, more representative and more welcoming.
As part of this first step we've chosen to support The Black Curriculum as a fundraising partner. We'll be donating as an organisation, and if you are able to, you can too. In their own words the The Black Curriculum are:
A social enterprise that aims to deliver black British history all across the UK. We run a range of virtual and in-person programmes to schools, young people and corporations to promote the importance of Black history. Our aim is to prepare students to become fully rounded citizens and ready for an increasingly globalised world. Our curriculum is grounded in the arts for young people to engage with history imaginatively, encouraging student satisfaction and critical thinking skills. Through our holistic approach we aim to remedy a wider systemic issue.
