St Augustine’s Abbey, Chilworth near Guildford is a Roman Catholic contemplative Benedictine monastery with a rich spiritual heritage. Originally founded in 1860 in Ramsgate by monks following the Rule of St Benedict, the Community relocated to the glorious Surrey Hills in 2011. The Benedictine monks live a life of prayer, work and study, following a 1,500 year old monastic tradition, often praying in the ancient beauty of Gregorian Chant, sung in Latin.

St Augustine’s Abbey, Chilworth is a joyful and welcoming Community, where the monks have a strong sense of brotherhood, hospitality and a great sense of positivity. The BBC has called this special place a ‘prayer powerhouse’ and it is indeed a sanctuary of peace, offering the public the opportunity to pray, visit and stay for spiritual renewal.

The monastery is also world renowned for its monk-made beauty products, prayerfully crafted by hand with care and tradition. Those discerning a monastic vocation are actively encouraged to enquire—the monks warmly welcome men who feel drawn to exploring this life of faith and devotion. The Abbey Church is open daily for 9am daily Mass, Divine Office seven times daily, Sunday 10am Mass and Catholic study days, talks and events. Members of the public of all faiths and none are welcome to pray daily with the monks.

Guests wanting to experience the rhythm of monastic life and the often transformative power of silence are welcome to ask to stay for a few days in our monastic guesthouse. You can also ask the monks to pray for you. Find out more at www.chilworthbenedictines.com
