New stretch target
Any money we raise beyond our target of £12,000 will go towards our youth groups in London, Leeds and Bristol. In the past year we have worked with over 500 young trans, non-binary and gender variant young people.
Gendered Intelligence is taking 70 trans young people camping this summer but we need your help to do it.

Any money we raise beyond our target of £12,000 will go towards our youth groups in London, Leeds and Bristol. In the past year we have worked with over 500 young trans, non-binary and gender variant young people.
Gendered Intelligence is running camping trips for 70 trans, non-binary and gender variant young people this summer. Help us raise the last £12,000 to make sure that the two trips can go ahead.
Camping is the ideal summer activity - sitting round a bonfire under the stars, swimming outdoors, learning to kayak and climb for the first time and cooking dinner on a BBQ.
Young trans people have limited opportunities to take part in camping residentials. Usually programmes are segregated by sex, putting young trans people in an awkward position and depriving them of the freedom to be themselves.
At Gendered Intelligence, we do something a bit special.
Since 2010, we have created a trans-only camping residential for young trans people. For one weekend in August, we take a group of young trans people to the Essex countryside where they build a camp, make new friend and have the space to truly be themselves in the outdoors without fear of prejudice and embarrassment.
For some young transgender people, attending our camping trip is the only time in the year that they can feel truly relaxed. Many of the participants do not get the chance to take part in sport or other physical activities in everyday life, missing out on a vital source of well-being and enjoyment.
This year GI is taking a whopping 70 young people camping over two weekends - our biggest group ever, up from 40 last year. The campers will be supported by a core team of 3 youth workers and 7 trained trans volunteers per trip.
Some of the young people have applied for a full bursary and many others have asked for financial assistance. With your help, we can make sure that every single one of those 70 young people comes camping.
£72 for each young person to camp
£20 for each young person to take part in activities
£32 for each young person's food
£10 to cover each young people's travel
£32 to cover each volunteer's expenses
£360 to cover the entire camping trip for one young person
"I learnt a lot and had so much fun for the first time in a long time. I didn't want to leave, it was like a little piece of paradise. I can't wait until the next one!"
"Camp was a place I could be myself, a place where I didn’t worry about gender or the world outside, a place to forget about my problems for 4 days"
"I really enjoyed archery, but what I liked best was just hanging out and chatting by the camp fire each night."
"It was muddy, but still fantastic!"
"I wish every day was camp!"
"I made some really good friends on camp and now feel less alone in the world.”
