A 15 year old pupil at Yavneh Boys, Akiva Mann-Wineberg, has come up with a novel way to raise funds for mental health charity Jewish Action for Mental Health (JAMH). He will be attempting to visit every one of the 99 tram stops in Manchester in a day – a feat expected to take around 10 hours.

‘I absolutely love the metrolink tram system in Manchester and it has been my ambition to do the ‘tram challenge’. I have spent ages plotting the routes so that it can all be done in a day’, Akiva said.

Akiva is inviting people to sponsor him per stop  and he intends to send live updates on the day about where he is up to. He said, ‘Everyone seems to do sponsored runs so I thought I’d do something a bit different! I am hoping to raise £1000 for a mental health charity because mental health is such a big issue these days. So many young people have had their mental health affected by the Pandemic and JAMH comes into school and offers free counselling and therapy to Jewish young people as well as adults’.

Kate Lurie, Project Manager of JAMH said, ‘We are always looking for innovative ways to raise funds for our small charity and hope that people will dig deep to help Akiva achieve his goal. Every penny he raises will go directly to fund counselling and therapy.’

Akiva will attempt his Tram-Athon on Wednesday July 27th and you can sponsor him by donating by BACS to Jewish Action for Mental Health, Sort Code: 20-55-41, Account number: 539 716 94, Ref: Tram.

Anything you can contribute towards helping me achieve my target will be massively appreciated.

Thank you.
