New stretch target

Extra finances will help to offer further training courses for more volunteers and supervisors.  We would love to be a service that can allocate a volunteer as soon after a referral is received as possible and massively reduce the long waiting time.

We currently have a team of volunteer counsellors and active listeners/supporters who give their time voluntarily whether they are counsellors in private practice or work in other jobs to spend time on the phone, face to face or via online methods with clients who are struggling with the death of a loved one or a loss in some area of their life.  We offer a free service but donations are always welcomed.

Our volunteers need to be trained in working with people going through difficulties either mentally or emotionally and especially with added issues around Covid-19.  They have often been unable to stay with those in hospital or be comforted by friends and family for support during or after possible death.  Isolation has become another huge issue on top of 'normal grief' during this pandemic.  Face to face appointments have also been difficult during this time, relying on telephone or online means where possible and the reduced number of volunteers being available themselves due to Covid-19 issues.

As we slowly unfold from the pandemic, we need to recruit and train more volunteers to and provide the supervision support required to comply with BACP guidelines.  We are often working with very vulnerable people.

A training course will allow us to recruit at least 10 volunteers and once completing the 8 week training course, they will help to reduce the extremely long waiting list and allow the service to work with clients much sooner and for as long as needed.  Our current waiting time is approx 3 months.

Our volunteers  require regular supervision support on both a personal and bereavement work basis.  Our Supervisors are limited at the moment and we need to provide additional training for one of our current volunteers to become a Supervisor to support these new volunteers.

The money raised will cover the cost of providing the 8 week training course including administration, supervisory support and venue costs.

Got an idea like this?

Over £200 million has been raised from our crowd to support the projects they love! Plus tens of millions more unlocked by our partners.
