I founded TradieApp based on my own experiences in the construction industry. When I began college, there were 25 students in my class, but sadly, only 3 had the opportunity to gain the hands-on experience they needed. This left 22 students without any real-life exposure over the course of three years. Regrettably, this situation remains unchanged to this day.
Upon leaving college, I was faced with three choices:
Attempt to succeed on my own.
Pursue a different career path.
Look for a local trade to join.
I reached out to every joiner and builder in my area, but unfortunately, I had no success.
So, I created a profile and opted for the first choice. My phone rang for the first time, but I didn't pick it up; I had never even heard a client conversation, let alone participated in one.
This ultimately led me to choose a different career path. For two years, I worked washing pots after completing my NVQ in Joinery.
I worked as a steel erector for three years, where i unfortunately broke my back due to poor health and safety, i knew that i had to get out of that job before it happend, but due to the long hours i was working this left me with no time to look for anything else.
I finally got the break through to start my joinery path but this was five to six years after completing my NVQ, and I couldn't even remember how to install a door handle, let alone hang a door.
At 21 or 22, I was earning £60 a day while managing rent, bills, and purchasing tools simultaneously. When I turned 22, I discovered my partner was pregnant, which left me no choice but to take out a loan to acquire the necessary tools to start my own business.
The journey from when I first went solo to when I set my tools down has been the most exhilarating roller coaster of my life, and here’s why…
Not knowing where your next job is coming from.
Unsure if you can pay bills.
Working alone.
Counting every penny.
Mental health.
Customers pulling out of jobs.
Tools breaking.
Days off work.
Vehicle maintenance.
Unsociable hours.
Weather.
Staffing issues.
Waiting on other trades.
Wage demands.
Turning down work.
Not having work.
Chasing clients.
This is where TradieApp can make a difference.
