Why is Toucan Water needed?

Deforestation of the Amazon rainforest is reaching a critical turning point, with scientists warning that time is running out. Every minute, over 300,000 sq. ft. of rainforest land is destroyed. If we remain on this path, 40% of the Amazon will be be lost by 2050.

In addition, plastic water bottles significantly contribute towards pollution. As a result of recycling challenges, the used plastic bottles end up as landfill. Plastic is also known to contain harmful chemicals (BPA) that impact our health. 

How does Toucan Water help to resolve these challenges?

We have teamed up with our partners to create an accessible solution which incorporates:

•  sustainable packaging
•  a localised supply chain (to reduce our carbon footprint)
•  protection against rainforest deforestation

Is there a demand for this?

Absolutely! We have conducted comprehensive market research and customer interviews to learn exactly what is important to our audience – and have tailored Toucan Water accordingly. We are confident that our social purpose is shared widely by environmentally-conscious consumers of all ages.

So why do we need to crowdfund?

We are now getting ready to launch our product, using this funding to secure our first production batch and raise capital for our future initiatives. These include: protecting our first hectare of land; developing fully resealable aluminium lids; designing our sustainable packaging; and implementing geotag technology (this will map each sq. ft. of the rainforest that we protect to individual cans).

Who we are?

With a long-standing love for the rainforest and its wildlife, we decided to combine our passions for conservation and sustainability. We came up with the idea of creating Toucan during a joint trip to the Japanese temperate forest. We hope to achieve our mission by positively impacting the environment - and forging a business that goes far beyond a simple pursuit of profit.

How does Toucan Water operate?

Our business model is simple. We allocate a portion of our revenue towards rainforest preservation (protecting at least 1 sq. ft. per can), with remaining capital being reinvested back into the business.

What land are we protecting?

Our strategy is to work proactively with our partners in Brazil, to protect the most vulnerable sections of the Amazon rainforest that are at risk of immediate deforestation. By preserving these tracts of land, we are contributing to the "green wall" around the perimeter of the rainforest, preventing further destruction of the rainforest and its diverse wildlife.
