What is it ?
K-pop, K-drama and what else ?
This summer, young performing artists from South Korea are visiting the 2024 Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Korea's newest interdisciplinary art that you haven't seen yet in Edinburgh! This is our story and also your story, the biggest concern for all of us. How can we survive wisely in these lonely and harsh times?
We invite you to our unique Sound & Movement performance that showcases the journey research of translating sonic language into body language. The performance begins with the autobiographical stories of young artists, exploring various survival tools and methods they encounter through sound and movement. Look forward to an enchanting blend of boxes, objects, voices, feedback, and the sounds of the body.
Who are we ?
We are young Korean artists living in Seoul, London, and Paris who came together to express their artistic languages, such as sound art, movement, and theatre.
Sound artist Da Won Kwack and her Korean art company named PROJECT SANPA present a research-based performance, featuring their collaborative experiments and interactions conducted online during this summer term, at festivals across the UK!
PROJECT SANPA is an interdisciplinary collective team based in South Korea since 2019. We have experimented with constructing contexts in different art languages, theatre, sound, movements and fine arts, through research-based practice and workshops. We continue to allow the audience to experience the performance through different senses.
When and Where ?
After finishing the first show at the Camden Fringe, we are coming to Edinburgh Fringe to meet you, for only one day ! It will be on 7th August at 14:00 and 17:00 at the French Institute of Scotland (West Parliament Square, EH1 1RF), for 50 mins, by the price of £12 (Confession £10). Don't miss the chance to meet the latest Korean young performing arts!

Why do we need your help ?
Korean culture and arts are not just in Net*lix!
Korean performing arts are very interesting not only in beautiful traditional arts, but also in contemporary art. This is because trends are changing very flexibly at the same time as passing on the existing classic arts. For example, performances dealing with climate change, ecological issues, animal rights, feminism, rights of people with disabilities and economic conditions, which are currently hot topics around the world, are pouring out in South Korea. This is not just a simple trend, but it is characterized by the fact that the depth of dealing with the subject is matured at a rapid pace and various genre attempts are made.
HOWEVER! Although trends and growth rates are fast, it is not easy for long-term productions to continue until the works are introduced overseas. How many recent performances of South Korea have we missed ? Your attention and support will be a great boost to young Korean artists to present more diverse works abroad in the future, especially at the Edinburgh Fringe, a global stage.
Your support will not only help us cover the production costs of this performance (though of course it's too important!), it will also give us continued courage to meet audiences around the world with South Korea's latest trending performances.
How are we going to spend your donation ?
£620, which is our target amount covers only
- Edinburgh Fringe show registration fees
- Venue hire costs
- Crowdfunding fees.
Please support our entry into the Edinburgh Fringe !
In addition, we incur essential performance production costs on our own such as sound equipments purchase, Festival insurance, PAT Test, practice room rental, props and costumes, as well as transportation and stay expenses from South Korea to Edinburgh. All of these costs add up to more than £4,600 (even though our pay isn't included in the calculation!) Any additional sponsorship beyond the target amount will be added to the cost of this production.
Thank you all for your kind attention and generous support !
