We are a small charity based in the Parish of Selston, Nottinghamshire.
We are dedicated to reducing social isolation, providing advice, signposting, providing food and warmth as well as many other services providing support to the local community. Our charity offers a range of services including a food bank, Community Library, Community and College courses, A Community Café providing a warm space and a general meeting point to meet new people or spend time with friends and family.
Our charity plays a vital role in the community, providing a range of services that are essential to many people. Our food bank aims to provide food to those who are either the most vulnerable in society or families struggling to make ends meet.
Our café provides a warm space during the colder months enabling people to meet others and have a hot drink and food.
Our Library provides books, resources and access to a computer, resources a lot of our users would not ordinarily have access to.
Our community courses offer training to help people develop new skills and potentially improve employment prospects or add to their CV. In addition, these courses and the space in general offer the opportunity for people to come together build friendships and support networks.
We find ourselves in the middle of the Cost of Living crisis where utility bills have almost doubled from last year , food supply costs for our Community Cafe and Foodbank have increased significantly and the general costs of equipment and costs for services have increased significantly. As a result we are struggling to meet the needs of the Community like never before and our finances are taking a huge hit we have a finite amount of time to find funding to allow us to continue this essential service that has been running for the last 23 years.
We work with some of the most vulnerable people in society, low income, elderly , socially isolated and those suffering with serious health issues. We are set in a rural location in an ex coalfields area where opportunities are limited and there are no similar services for at least 5 miles of our Centre, meaning if our service were to stop it would leave many in a desperate situation.
