Dear Supporters - existing and new alike!
We’re writing to you at an interesting time for Leeds Tidal (and the country).
Since 2020 a huge amount of our work has been focused on Climate Action Leeds (CAL), a multi-organisation Lottery-funded project aiming to create a zero-carbon, nature-friendly, socially-just Leeds by the 2030s. You can find out more here.
It’s been six years since we published our last strategy and a lot has changed since then, global, nationally, and locally. Much has changed in the last few weeks alone!
The Plan
For a long time, Tidal’s mission has been to support and foster more effective movements for social, economic, and environmental justice in Leeds, as part of a national and international movement.
However, we want to and need to do more.
With the CAL project set to end next year, we were already busy thinking about what’s next and where to take Leeds Tidal.
With the result of the General Election, we see an opportunity, and an absolute need, to put forward and win the changes needed to create a more sustainable and socially just world.
We cannot allow things to be business as usual.
The challenge in front of us may seem tougher than ever, but we believe the answers for how to create a more just Leeds and beyond are there, it’s about building the movement to win them.
What you can expect from us
Leeds Tidal will become an organisation on the front foot of winning change. To start, you can expect us to:
- Research, develop ideas, campaign, and organise, not just support.
- Host more events and talks.
- Run campaign planning, activism skills, and knowledge workshops.
- Continue our work with Climate Action Leeds.
The ask
We have two simple asks.
First, if this sounds like something you want to be involved with, sign up to our newsletter if you haven’t already. If you have, let others know about what we are planning and tell them about any upcoming Leeds Tidal events.
Second, and we would not ask unless we had to, but to continue our work and move forward into these exciting next steps we need your help to build the organisation and make ends meet.
Climate Action Leeds (CAL) has also been a much bigger project and has taken a lot of our time than we first thought, time we would normally spend raising funds and putting on events to cover our core costs.[Nicola Ha1]
We are exploring all opinions, but time and time again we have found small donations from supporters such as yourself are unmatched in allowing us to be small but powerful.
You help keep Leeds Tidal completely independent and allow us to focus on what we think is necessary.
To get Leeds Tidal to where it needs to be to take us into this existing next steps we estimate we need an extra £500 a month in total. Even if it’s an extra couple of quid a month, it will still go a long way to helping us meet this goal.
And if not, we still want to say a massive thank you for supporting Leeds Tidal so far.
We hope you’ll join us on the next steps to create a more sustainable and socially -just Leeds and beyond!
