We have been running Thornton Community Centre since 2019, we have now secured a long term lease enabling us to move on our our second phase of improvements. We have already improved our toilets and flooring. We are now looking at improving the kitchen, this will enable us to have better catering at our events and get increased revenue from the hire of the hall.
The Centre is at the heart of Thornton Village delivering over 30 hours of classes each week, with a footfall of 350. We deliver classes from Pilates to Kids Chess and Wellbeing Cafe to the Library, trying to keep room hire as low as possible to allow smaller groups to get up and running.
We started family cook days with grant funding and have continued them from our own fund raising. Families come the the Centre and, under Naydine's expert guidance, cook a tasty nutritious meal from scratch. The families then take this home to enjoy together. The class currently use individual plug in hot plates, but this limits what they can cook. We would like a gas range cooker so we can further the meals they can make.
