Directors Statement:

At a time when identity and acceptance is being challenges across the world, we need queer voices telling authentic queer stories now more than ever. I have included a list of statistics below which sum up some key issues we in society face, but in short, queer individuals struggle with mental health far more than any other group. There is a significant amount of evidence which shows that when groups experience positive LGBTQAI+ messages, there is a reduction in suicidal thoughts and feelings, regardless of sexual orientation.

It was important to me when writing and developing this story, to explore these two queer characters in a hostile and isolated setting, and celebrate the love they have for each other even against a dystopian backdrop. I was also keen to break the 'Kill-our-gays' trope in films, and curate a narrative that builds while examining their mental health, into a moment of love that they share with each other.

Any support you can give will be greatly appreciated, and support us in creating our vision of positive representation of queer cinema and mental health.

This film draws inspiration from tone and style, the themes and emotions of these films:

  • Solaris: One of our favorite films, and heavily inspired this project, in its thematic setting and examination of philosophy through cinema.
  • The Martian: Narratively inspired our project, about a character isolated on a foreign planet, and their battle with the elements, and their mental health.
  • Her: This film is a masterclass in cinematography, and capturing the narrative of a lonely characters struggle with their setting
  • All of us Strangers: A beautiful film about queer love and loneliness, thematically inspired our project.
