New Reward! Cyclocross Masterclass with Philip and Anna Glowinski - Limited to 20 places per session. £99 (this includes a Big Finish T-Shirt and Cycling Cap valued at £50)
Join us at Herne Hill Velodrome’s off-road trails for a 3hr cyclocross workshop with Croydon’s, nay, Britain’s, finest off-road-siblings. Covering a range of skills and techniques - for cyclocross riders of all abilities - this promises to be a great chance to improve your CX skills and have some fun in the process. All participants will also receive a Ltd Edition Big Finish cycling cap and t-shirt.
Once participants are confirmed, we’ll set a date in spring/summer of next year and finalise the content and timings of the session. All riders must own their own CX or mountain bike and be over 8 years old, with anyone under 18 having to be accompanied by an adult. (If you don’t own your own bike, but are keen to take part, please email
[email protected], prior to pledging, to discuss the possibility of HHV providing you with a bike)
The Glowinskis:
Anna and Philip have been riding and racing bikes - on and off-road - for over 25 years. Cyclocross is where it all began and off-road is where their hearts still lie. Anna was a national champion as a child and Philip is still seen at the sharp end of senior CX races, sneaking the occasional win. Philip is also the organiser of the VCL's London League cyclocross and was the course designer for Herne Hill's legendary Muddy Hell. They both prioritise skills over fitness so this session is great for anyone looking to get started on, or perfect, those important corners, remounts, hops and starts. Did we mention victory salutes and wheelies are available on request?
HHVs Offload Trails:
As well as the tarmac oval around which much at Herne Hill Velodrome revolves, the site features an extensive network of off-road trails. These provide a training ground for burgeoning talent, including current CX national champion Ben Tullett, and a regular venue for cyclocross racing. Unfortunately, rain tends to turn this much-loved site into a sea of mud and a burial ground for ripped-off rear mechs, and urgent work is needed to weather-proof the trails. Money raised from The Big Finish will certainly help toward improving this vital part of the HHV site.
NB: At least 8 participants must sign up for the session to gp ahead. If there's demand, we'll run another 3hr session for an additional 20 people, so watch this space if you miss out.
