WoRD tackles timber waste, teaches carpentry and upcycling, and improves community gardens and spaces using reclaimed timber

by Harry Morgan in London, England, United Kingdom

 New stretch target

This extra funding could pay for the renovation and improvement of 5-10 community spaces, or workshops for 400+ people to learn carpentry and waste reduction skills for free.

What is the Woodshop of Recycled Delights?

Over two years, the Woodshop of Recycled Delights has gone from an idea to a fully operational non-profit CIC which teaches hundreds of people carpentry skills, rescues thousands of kilograms of waste timber, and improves many community gardens across North and East London.

You may have met us at our free reclaimed timber carpentry sessions at the Garden of Earthly Delights in Hackney, where we give people a crash course in tool use, safety, accessing free waste wood, and how to make almost anything you might want to from it.

What are we trying to do?

Woodwork lessons are only a part of what we do though. Actually the core of our work is in tackling timber waste and supporting other community gardens to develop their spaces by providing workshops, or designing and building them structures.

By doing this all using reclaimed materials, we offset the carbon emissions that would be created by using virgin materials, and keep the costs for the community gardens as low as possible, which is crucial as these spaces often run on little or no funding.

What's this crowd funder about?

As a non-profit, we cover all of this work through fundraising, grants, or organisations paying for our work. The first two years of our work was funded by a grant of £15,000/y, which enabled us to get to this stage, but now we're urgently in need of more unrestricted funding to be able to carry on our great work.

We have a lot of exciting plans for the future... Aside from many more workshops, builds collaborations, creations, and the training and up-skilling of more facilitators, we want to open up the outdoor workshop at the Garden of Earthly Delights so that you can come and practice your skills, access materials, and work on your projects, for free!

Down the line, we have ambitions to secure a free lease on a site in hackney which we could use as a reclaimed lumber yard, all-weather community workshop and tool library.

Match funded!

This crowdfunded is match funded by both Aviva and until the 20th November, the Save Our Wild Isles Fund, which means that for every £1 donated, we get £2! That means that any donations up to £250 are doubled, meaning we can do twice as much great stuff with any money you donate!

Delicious Rewards

We're really passionate about making great things out of reclaimed materials, and we're using this crowd funder as an opportunity to do much more of that. If you'd like to support us and get a bit back, here's some detail of the kinds of rewards that you can claim by supporting us through this Crowd funder:

We really hope you can be a part of helping us to carry on this work. You can read and see more about us on our instagram page.
