The Windmill Trust is a charity based in Cumbria, dedicated to supporting children, young people, and families struggling with complex mental health challenges. Our mission is to ensure that every child, regardless of background, has access to effective therapeutic support that can prevent long-term mental health issues. We work directly with children, teens, parents, and carers, particularly those at risk and least likely to access professional help.
With 1 in 5 children in the UK facing mental health difficulties (NHS England, 2023), and those from lower-income households being especially vulnerable, The Windmill Trust was founded by experienced therapists to bridge the gap for children who fall outside statutory funding criteria but still need urgent support.
Through our Arts and Play Therapies, including 1:1 therapy, small group therapy, parent/carer and family support, and school consultations and training, we help children express themselves, develop resilience, and improve their emotional well-being.
Our creative therapeutic services foster:
- Greater emotional well-being and happiness
- Enhanced self-esteem and relationships
- A stronger sense of identity and belonging
- A reduction in anxiety and emotional distress
It is essential to keep this vital local service in our community. Funding is critical to continue providing these services and ensure that children in Cumbria, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds, can access the help they need.
Your valued support will allow us to sustain and expand our work, making a lasting impact on the lives of vulnerable young people in our area.
