The Wiltshire Bobby Van Trust provides a free home security and online safety service for elderly and disabled people in Swindon and Wiltshire. We carry out a full home security and fire risk assessment before fitting the appropriate security devices and advise the client on best practice regarding personal, property and online security. We also secure homes of domestic violence victims.

The Wiltshire Bobby Van Trust helps protect the most vulnerable within our local community. We do this by securing the homes of anyone over 60 or 18+ with a registered disability living in Wiltshire and Swindon who have become a victim of house crime or cyber-crime, or are at risk of becoming one. We also secure the homes of domestic abuse victims.
We work hard each year to make sure that we raise the necessary funds so that everyone over the age of 60, or deemed as vulnerable due to a mental or physical disability, remains safe in their own home.
Our key aims are to:
- Reduce fear of crime and domestic violence and abuse on an individual basis.
- Reduce levels of re-victimisation; improve security of domestic premises that have been targeted.
- Reduce house crime amongst elderly and vulnerable people; communicate with other agencies to identify and help secure the safety of potential victims of burglary and hate crime through pro-active visits and community talks.
- Reduce levels of domestic fire incidents; promote awareness of fire safety, detection and prevention.
- Prevent cyber-crime through increasing awareness and education.
Our security and fire risk assessments, followed by the installation of appropriate security hardware and smoke alarms are free to all eligible clients. Our talks to community groups are an important tool in spreading public awareness about home and personal safety. Pro-active visits to clients who feel they do not have adequate security to feel safe accounts for around 50% of our call-outs. Domestic violence and abuse (DVA) victims make up around 20% of our clientele. This is a complex issue that presents a major public health issue, cutting across all geographic and cultural groups. The impact on those living with its effects are often long lasting and devastating.
Help us to keep the most vulnerable within Wiltshire and Swindon safe.
