Support The Wee Gaitherin – Scotland’s most democratic, free poetry festival (Stonehaven, July 29-30, 2022)
The Wee Gaitherin brings together new, emerging, unknown and renowned poets on an equal footing to share the power of poetry in English, Scots and Gaelic.
Our festival is different in two crucial respects – we throw out an open invitation to poets to take part; and audience admission to all events is free at the door.
Our motto reflects this ethos: Turn up, tune in, take part.
We’re appealing for donations – however small or large – to raise £1,600 towards the basic costs of staging the annual festival, and to bring poets from all corners of Scotland to Stonehaven to take part.
Please give whatever you can – £5, £10 or more. Please see our 'Rewards' offers.
All the money donated will go towards the essential costs of the festival – the travel expenses of the poets plus venue hire.
All proceeds from the festival itself will be donated to Medicines Sans Frontiers.
The Wee Gaitherin is now a registered Community Interest Company (C.I.C), dedicated to providing a platform for up-and-coming to well-kent poets from a diversity of backgrounds in a spirit of inclusivity and equality.
The festival was first staged in Stonehaven in summer 2021. We are committed to making it a vital and entertaining annual feature in the cultural life of Scotland.
The festival is being promoted by The Poets' Republic magazine and Drunk Muse Press.
