The Wayfinderwoman Trust

RCN 1175486, Eastbourne

Recipient of the Queens Award for Voluntary Service, this charity run by women for women, supports disadvantaged women to build their confidence and skills to stand tall, stand proud and transform their lives. We rely on grants, donations and pro-bono support to provide free advice, support and coaching online, in person and via our drop-in advice hub.

Our Impact

"I found out about WayfinderWoman and welcomed by them when I was feeling really emotionally so low and in a wishes circle which I was not able to break.  I even lost basic social skills to communicate with people even in normal life situations.  They made me feel positive again, made me want to live rather than exist". Single mother, unemployed in her late thirties.  1639050722_img-20190621-wa0024.jpg

"When I came to WayfinderWoman I was technically homeless, job-less and staying in a deprived area.  I had entered my menopause and my mental health was suffering greatly.  For me, [WayfinderWoman} has changed my life around and I have found myself again." Amanda

"I was in an abusive relationship and lost the ability to run my business which had been very successful. I was told to go to WayfinderWoman.  I still remember the day I came and talked to them about losing confidence in what I can do, the sentence is still with me, 'Every experience you have is still inside you, just put it in your pocket, lock it in and you know you still have it.' I am building up my confidence about speaking English and showing my personality, not hiding behind something.  Now I have the courage."   Hoa

We're here to help1639051043_img-20200215-wa0001.jpg

Run by women, for women, many of whom have suffered prejudice or disadvantage themselves and who are all volunteers,  we help those who are feeling anxious and uncertain about themselves or their future. By building their self confidence and skills they then are able to challenge any barriers that face them in finding a better life.

Covid's long-term impact on women's chances

The pandemic has had a major impact on everyone. None more so than the women we support. They have been disproportionately affected by job cuts and bearing increased responsibilities in the home.  As a result women come to us crippled with anxiety and looking for help with finding food, finding jobs, finding a way forward.

Others are facing a critical point in their lives: their caring responsibilities have changed, they are being made redundant, they have long-term health conditions, breakdown in relationships - all leading to low feelings of self-worth.

You can help us raise women's self-belief

We can offer that support online and, crucially, at our drop-in advice hub based in the centre of Eastbourne.  To keep the hub open we need to raise £10,000 each year.

£5,200 would additionally provide eight professionally facilitated workshops over the next 12 months in accessible venues around Sussex. That could help more than 100 women get jobs, be able to stand up to those who take advantage of them, to transform their lives.
