As a working class performer writer from the Midlands I feel there is a huge gap in the industry where Women in the Midlands are being criminally misrepresented or unseen. My mission is to create a platform for female identifying writers, performers and directors to showcase their work to industry professionals and have the opportunity to network with them afterwards in a safe and friendly space. We are The Tits...bold, beautiful and unashamedly "out-there".
I am hosting my first event at The Blackbox Theatre in Birmingham on the 5th April which I am, currently, self-funding (sorry credit card!). I need your help to ensure this event is the best it can possibly be. If I reach my target I will be able to invite more industry professionals to attend and market the event sufficiently, hire a trained technician to ensure the evening goes without a hitch, hire someone to work the door so I'm not frantically trying to do everything myself, provide the actors with more tech rehearsal time in the space and hire professional photographer/videographer to promote future events.
What your money will be spent on:
£500-venue cost which includes 6 hours hire for tech rehearsal, light technician, showcase of emerging talent, bar staff and security. These are the basics I need covering to break even for what I’ve booked so far. Otherwise it’s out my own pocket.
The other £500 will be spent on paying a photographer/videographer to document the event to support further funding for future events like this, marketing for the platform, flyers for the event and to pay the people I have roped in to help me with running the night smoothly.
I am not doing this as an “earner”. I simply want to help emerging talent in whatever small way I can.
What's next? If this evening is successful, I will be applying for arts council funding to host more of these events across the Midlands monthly.
