We're asking for your help to continue The Telling in Retreat: a free live-streamed online series of workshops and concerts to enjoy while safe at home.
We believe that singing ancient/timeless, soulful songs answers a real need in people at the moment. Not only is a way to connect with others, but it’s way of expressing feelings, bringing people together and relieving the stress of self-isolation.
The first workshop was held via Zoom on Friday 27th March with Ariane Prüssner and was attended by 48 participants (with only 2 days of publicity). We received some wonderful feedback including:
"Well done for providing something of beauty in these dark times”
“This is beyond cool!”
“Really enjoyed the workshop, and will definitely be here for the series.”
"I loved this. Went on silent for good reason, believe me. Will be there next week.”
We are hoping to make this a regular weekly event at 11am on Fridays. Ariane will host a second singing workshop on Friday 3 April and we have plans for a duet concert with audience participation on Friday 10 April and more in the following weeks.
We are expecting the number of participants to increase dramatically as the word spreads among followers and we publicise the series more widely - including the national press. This would mean we would need to subscribe to a paid membership of Zoom to enable more than 100 participants to join.
Furthermore, we have funds to pay artists for the first 4 workshops only. It's important to support our musicians as they are reliant on income from work with us and any contribution you make to this appeal will enable us to carry on and do more events. we are also applying to Arts Council England for support for this other elements of our work but won't hear from them until May so your funds now would help us to continue until then.
We want this to be a free event to benefit everyone while the country is in lockdown, so if your finances are not affected, please dig deep to help us fund this retreat from our new lives.
One way or another, we hope to find a way to continue to brighten coffee time on Fridays. We look forward to seeing you there and do spread the word.
