The Squiggle House CIC (15628761)

The Squiggle House CIC is a start up, registered CIC, with the want and need to grow, who have been working underground supporting a small number of families with children who have additional needs in the East Kent area.

We are limited on how much we can support these families. We have also come to notice that there are limited resources in this area for the children with additional needs and their families to access. The daily activities that ‘normal’ children may be able to access, such as going to the park or the beach, can prove challenging to those with additional needs. This could be due to equipment they need to survive or the extra support they have with additional needs, such as sensory overload or constant supervision due to seizures. The other key thing we have noticed, when working with families in this sector is that there is almost a non-existent support network on a professional level, with a high criteria for disability social workers and limited funding. This is something we would like to work on to put an end to the failing system and stigma surrounding Additional needs. We would like to expand out as much as we can, to the wider community. We aim to expand with different stages.

Our current goal (Stage 1) is to: Support families with any questions and worries via social media and email; Provide a fun packed activity session once a month at the local leisure centre; Work on our future plans to better the company; Continue to work on the trust's internal affairs so that we can access a building that we can stay in- This will provide families a safe space to access things they might not be able to access elsewhere.

Background work: In the background of maintaining the social media and hosting these sessions once a month, we are currently working on a full scale plan with multiple stages. We will be working on building our social media platforms and raising awareness for the CIC. We will continue to grow in the aim of helping as many as we can. Our current volunteers are putting in as much time as they can afford to help grow this company.

End goal: Our end goal is to create and environment that will: Provide a daily support group throughout the year to support families with issues and concerns they have and also allow them to have someone to listen; Give SEN children that are not in school the opportunity to interact with other children and make new friends; Build on children’s EYFS development; An early stages support for parents that are seeking diagnosis for their children; Provide a creche like set up; A siblings club on some evenings every week for siblings giving them the opportunity to talk about their feelings and worries; Domestic abuse support; An on-site/online shop selling SEN equipment; A charity shop; On site children’s haircuts; A library; A safe place for parents to have important meetings; Activities such as messy play, art, music, sensory sessions, story time, cooking, tac pack, music, video games, and more.

General Information: Our Facebook account is monitored during office hours, Monday-Friday 9am-5pm, during which time we will aim to respond to your queries within 24 hours. Please note that all of our social media is currently undergoing maintenance, you can find the newest updates at Facebook. @ The Squiggle House CIC

As a CIC we're heavily dependent on the generosity of our supporters to provide the funds that keep our services going. We are currently aiming to raise £5000+ to complete the next steps.
