About 8 years ago i had an idea to set up an awards ceremony for the local community. We found that that there were corporate awards ceremony inviting local people to celebrate their achievements and then charging them lots of money to attend, We felt this was completelry wrong and so set out to create a concept where nobody would have any barriers as to why they could be recognised for supporting their local community.
So we set up The Spirit of Tamworth Community Awards and by using our links in the business community gained support from local venues and businesses so that we could put on something amazing that would be totally free to attend to all invited nominees including relaxing the dress code so that people could wear anything comfortable without the fear of having to buy a new dress or suit.
Our next step was to invite the local community to nominate their unsung heroes and very soon we were overwhelmed with the response and the stories of peoples achievements were just incredible . Brave souls diagnosed with terminal illnesses raising thousands of pounds , children battling adversity with a smile and positive attitude, young people bucking the stereotype and being a valuable member of their community.
During Covid we took our aswards online with over 11k people watching , now we have outgrown the original venue andhave had to bring in professional companies to run the sound and light . last year we had over 350 people in attendance and was a truly spectacular evening .
Our mission from day one is that no nominee should ever have to pay for their evening.
Their ticket is free, their guests tickets are free , the food is free and even their transport if required, we want to be able to say thank you with no strings attached , no hidden agendas , just a celebration of all that is good in our community.
That is why we are asking for crowdfunding , we have amazing local businesses that help us cover the cost of food, trophies, certificates etc but the actual cost of producing the evening has meant that we are looking for outside funding
