After experiencing our very own ASD journey and speaking with more than 300 other families faced with huge challenges to get the education and access to services for individuals within the Autistic community, we created The Spectrum Space"
We have found that its evident that existing support systems are fragmented, overwhelmed and often fail to meet the diverse needs of those affected by Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and other neuro-divergent concurrent challenges (ADHD, PDA..) and no support if any at all for thwir carers/parents
Despite participating in multiple workshops, Local authority processes, parent training courses, educational settings & professional services, there is still a overwhelming need for a more person centred & individualised support offering that actually engages and helps children and young people with neaurodiversity.
We, as parents/carers of Autistic children, and many other families, have experienced huge gaps in the current system for CYP & there is a distinct lack of aftercare, education, and support following diagnosis, if diagnosed at all...
The absence of a centralised support hub exacerbates this issue, leaving families feeling isolated and overwhelmed, services pushed to capacity & unable to help due to overwhelming numbers...
The creation of a “one Stop” alternative provision & Wellbeing Community Hub - The Spectrum Space Charity - That will be built by neurodiverse people for neurodiverse people.
A dedicated space that brings together professionals, families, and individuals impacted by “ Low Support needs” ASD, Neurodivergence & often co-occurring mental health challenges. This hub would serve as a single point of access for any services and support available in Milton Keynes,
With a vision to provide comprehensive, integrated, and timely support to families. Partnerships and link working with relevant local charities will enable us to better support the individual needs of young people parent/carers & support the overwhelmed services in Milton Keynes and beyond!
Alternative provisions and programmes will include educational workshops, signposting for families, supporting carers and parents, alternative education for CYP (with a STEM focus), mental health & wellbeing sessions and creative arts projects and programmes. All designed by neaurodiverse advocates for neaurodiverse families, children young people and services.
Every child deserved access to education and that's what we will offer.
