We all know that ‘lifestyle’ diseases – particularly heart attacks and strokes, cancers, chronic respiratory disease and diabetes – have reached epidemic proportions around the world.
But did you know that lifestyle diseases are preventable? Up to 80% of heart disease, stroke and type-2 diabetes, and over a third of cancers could be prevented by eliminating shared risk factors, particularly tobacco use, unhealthy diet, physical inactivity and the harmful use of alcohol.
The International Self-Care Foundation (ISF), a registered charity, believes that the way forwards is to develop and implement the concept and practice of ‘self-care’. Self-Care is the way we manage our personal health and wellness. Self-care places the primary responsibility for managing wellness and preventing disease where it belongs - with each of us individually.
ISF needs your help in raising money to champion the cause of self-care, healthy lifestyles and disease prevention here in the UK and around the world. This includes collecting people’s good ideas about how to make and maintain healthy lifestyle choices – how we can help ourselves- and each other. Please join us, and help us build the ‘Wellness Revolution’ – the global movement aiming to help keep healthy people healthy.
