SHARP is one of the longest running archaeological excavation research project, founded in 1996, with the aim of studying the history of a typical rural settlement in Norfolk. It is one of the few archaeology projects that offers training opportunities to people from all backgrounds and walks of life, including our Basic Excavation and Recording Techniques course.

We provide these opportunities by trying to keep ours costs low, with all team giving their time and expertise for free. The other unique aspect to SHARP is our on-site camping accommodation and catering which makes a huge difference to those attending from further afield. It is particularly important for those that would struggle with the week costs of self-catering holiday lets, B&B or hotels. We also aim to provide bursaries for those that couldn’t afford to experience archaeology via other means.
We are also deeply rooted in the local community, using local companies and services where possible. We also provide outreach with school visits, tours for local interest groups, an evening lecture series and we are fully open to the public.
