The Santa Ana by Laurie Bayley-Higgins will be heading to the Edinburgh Fringe 2024 - we are raising funds to help us do this!!

Is a strong wind all it takes to tip people over the edge? This multimedia thriller, written by Laurie Bayley-Higgins, is inspired by Joan Didion’s essay on the Santa Ana. A multiplicity of characters are thrown into turmoil by these winds, from an oil magnate in fated pursuit of profit to a disaffected wife with murderous desires. As suicide rates increase and forest fires rage, this new play explores the simultaneous parallel decay of our environment and our mental health. Live videography and electronic score accompany this descent into disorder, as tensions rise to a climactic sensory and emotional overspill.

Crossed Wires is a Manchester based theatre company run by theatre maker Laurie Bayley-Higgins. Crossed Wires’s work engages a multidisciplinary approach, weaving sound and image alongside dramatic action to create work committed to an openness of interpretation, whilst simultaneously holding a visceral emotional weight. Their work is often concerned with the search for emotional connection and addresses issues around mental health.

The company's inaugural production Handle With Care was the first collaboration between Laurie Bayley-Higgins and Amy Townsend-Lowcock, a multidisciplinary artist whose work incorporates elements of theatre, performance art, video art and documentary filmmaking. 'Handle With Care' was picked up to be developed during a residency at Contact Theatre, where it was performed as a part of the ‘HOLD’ Residency Showcase in July 2022. Crossed Wires’s next project, The Santa Ana, expanded the company to include actor Stella Cohen, as well as musicians Rory Greig and Flynn McHardy. PJ Cunningham and Laura-May Brunk also joined the company as producer and assistant director respectively. A work in progress performance of the piece was performed as part of Word of Warning’s ‘Emergency 23’ festival at Contact Theatre in September 2023. The company has now expanded further and includes producer, Katie Tuson and actor, Alex Uzoka.

We are raising funds to assist in taking this show to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe this summer. We believe that the Fringe is the perfect place for this piece and we cannot wait to share it with audiences at C Arts from the 31st July-11 August. Taking a show up to Edinburgh is not cheap and we therefore appreciate any donations you can give to assist with our venue costs.

Thank you! We are so excited about this summer and the future of Crossed Wires and therefore all donations, no matter how big or small, are very much appreciated!!
