The Sand Bothy is run by Belhelvie Community Trust which is a registered charity SC045563
It is run entirely by volunteers. We have no paid staff. The building is owned by Aberdeenshire Council but leased to BCT so we are financially responsible for the building, for maintenance and the day to day running of the Sand Bothy.
We have a kiosk selling hot and cold drinks and ice cream which is open from April to October.
We have an exhibition about the beach which has been awarded 3 Stars by Visit Scotland.
The Sand Bothy is bookable throughout the year by small groups, meetings, classes and workshops, particularly by those with relevance to the surrounding country park environment.
The Sand Bothy is a community place for use by local people. It is a special resource for pupils and staff from Balmedie and other local schools, as a base for outdoor education.
During the pandemic, so we could protect our volunteers and visitors, The Sand Bothy has not opened its doors. We have therefore missed out on all our income from kiosk sales and bookings, and we have had to cancel our Easter and summer fundraising Fun Days. Essential repairs at the beginning of the year used up our reserves. We are now appealing to our supporters and visitors to make a donation to the Bothy, so that we can re-open our facilities when permitted, in the knowledge that our running costs are covered at least for this year.
