The Ripple, side by side with local people, is improving the quality of life for all ages in the community by helping people to help themselves. Started by local people, the Ripple harnesses the skills and enthusiasm of its dedicated volunteers to provide a wide range of well-used services in our community of Restalrig, Lochend & Craigentinny. Much of these areas are amongst the most deprived in Scotland and our community faces the challenges that poverty, health and social inequalities bring.

0We are currently experiencing devastating funding cuts that will see the loss of our Older People's Services. We are hoping to raise funds to continue with our essential older people services in the area. Currently our work is with older people from around 65 but have increasing numbers who are over 80 as well as more people with differing levels of mobility and cognitive ability.
Through the Ripple older people have increased opportunities to meet, socialise and interact with others, reducing isolation and increasing their social networks. We provide a weekly calendar of events based on feedback and input from participants and volunteers. We run an over 75’s lunch club for our most vulnerable people with transport that enables them to stay in their own homes for longer.
The need for clubs and activities is evident in the number of service-users who attend and volunteers who support them on a weekly basis. We have 21 members of the Friday Social Club, a volunteer steering group of 9 and 60 friends of the Friday social club. Our musical afternoons have an audience of 60. We have a core of 10 super senior members who are over 80 with several others who attend events on an ad hoc basis. There are no other similar services in this area and the Hub remains a focal point for our community.
The key to all that we do is the involvement of our wonderful team of volunteers of all ages and abilities who, alongside our small staff team, contribute so much to making life here better for everyone. Many Ripple users have gone on to become volunteers and provide the help for others that they found here themselves – for us that is the true impact of the Ripple effect.
Thanks so much for your support!
