Help support vulnerable refugee children and families, on the Island of Lesbos by funding this beautiful community built yurt.
by Toby Fairlove in Dartington, England, United Kingdom
We are established yurt makers in Devon. (Fairlove Yurts)
In March this year we ran a yurt making course in Andalucia, Spain. Participants came together from all over Europe to make a beautiful, hand made Turkomen style 5.4m/18ft yurt. Back home, we completed making the felts, cover and door. The Yurt is now ready to be delivered to the PIKPA camp run by Lesvos Solidarity on the Island of Lesbos in Greece. On Oct 1st 2017 the yurt will be driven 2,500 miles to Lesbos and installed at the camp.
You can read about the outstanding support Lesvos solidarity provides for very vulnerable refugees at http://www.lesvossolidarity.org/index.php/en/home/about-us
The yurt will be used as a crèche and family space, where refugees can meet, to paint, play, and heal.
We are looking to raise £2,500 to cover costs of the fuel, ferries and tolls for the 5,000 mile return journey and a further £1,500 to pay for a wood burning stove, materials for a proper wooden floor for the yurt and an extra cover to go over it for extra protection from sun damage and increased resilience of the canvas cover.
We hope hugely you will support our initiative. Shelter is crucial for refugees’ survival and well-being in the harsh situations they are weathering.
