Restoration and regeneration of the historic and cultural landscape of Penllergare Swansea for public benefit

Ymddiriedolaeth Penllergare - The Penllergare Trust

The Penllergare Trust was set-up in 2000 to preserve and protect Penllergare Valley Woods from the encroaching housing developments.  The site is privately owned and we have to pay £35,000 a year in rent alone to keep the woods safe from development and open to the public.

Today, we have over 100 volunteers helping us to care for the history, ecology and wildlife of this patch of green just north of Swansea, which creates a vital link between green areas for local wildlife.

Thanks to grants from the National Lottery, among others, we have been able to clear the woods and reinstate the Upper Lake and waterfall.  We have an on-site Coffee Shop and car park to help us to raise funds for our ongoing care and restoration of the woods and gardens.  We are currently working on the restoration of the Victorian Walled Garden and vinery, along with a native-species orchard.

Penllergare Valley Woods provides a welcoming green space for local people and tourists alike to visit, exercise, walk dogs, and enjoy the outdoors. Our volunteers come from all walks of life and volunteering with us enables them to socialise, learn new skills and gain confidence.

We are always in need of donations and grants to help us to continue our work and keep this wonderful place open to the public.
