Having played disc golf for several years and having to travel around an hour to get to local courses we have looked into building and running a course closer to home.
Being traveling disc golfers we have encountered many courses around the UK and have been envious of those with local courses and the great community's we have encountered. We have encouraged other people to play and although we are met with initial enthusiasm, getting people to travel and hour on a regular basis, to play has become the biggest challenge.
Disc golf is a popular sport, both with enthusiasts and casual players. Disc golf has many benefits to both physical and mental health, encouraging physical activity, being outdoors, companionship, sense of achievement and belonging to a large nation and international community It's a great sport for all ages and abilities and we regularly take our families to play and they always enjoy it. We really want to bring the the activity to families in the east Leicestershire area. We want to introduce disc golf and the positive benefits to as many people as we can.
We explored many options regarding obtaining some land and unfortunately we're turned down by several councils for a free to play course. This led to us looking into private land. We have teamed with some great owners of a portion of the national forest who want to see more people enjoying their land and also want to see the sport develop and grow in the area. Unfortunately this will mean renting the land in the future and therefore we could not build a free to play course, but we do intend to keep the cost to play low. As introducing people to the sport and building a community is our priority.
