Who on earth are The Milky Pigeons..?
The Milky Pigeons are a new and exciting sketch comedy duo formed by Conor Mather and Arran Kemp, based in Manchester. Conor and Arran perform short form sketch comedy that responds to the way people consume media today - quick, temporary, and to the point - presenting comedy that is appealing to a modern audience. The pair enjoy being part of an alternative comedy circuit in Manchester, and over the past year have performed at many open mic events across the city, as well as hosting events themselves, collaborating with new and exciting acts. Earlier this year The Milky Pigeons made it through to the quarter finals of the UK's largest (and perhaps only..!) alternative comedy competition, THE SKETCH OFF! The company is creatively directed by Katie Tuson and co-produced by Hollie Buckhurst and Emily Ring. The team met whilst writing, performing in and directing sketch shows as part of the Manchester Revue and are excited to be breaking off into their new company and to be taking their debut full-length show up, Running Out of Time!, to Edinburgh this summer.
What's this show all about..? (and is it even funny?)
The Pigeons are up against the clock! Running Out Of Time! is The Milky Pigeon’s debut full-length sketch comedy show, running at Just The Tonic at 6:10pm throughout the month of August. Emulating the fast-paced and varied style of your ‘For You Page’, the Pigeons’ hilarious sketches shape a commentary on how the influence of social media has reduced attention spans. The art of comedy is in a new digital era. We ask: Can comedians still trust an audience to remain focused for a full hour? - we bloody hope so...
Sketch comedy is a staple of the Edinburgh Fringe and our show speaks to the way the art of the sketch show has changed over time. Its breakneck speed offers a contemporary twist to a more traditional form of comedy. Running Out of Time! is written and performed by Arran Kemp and Conor Mather and directed by Katie Tuson - we believe that the absurdity and freshness of our show will engage audiences at the fringe. We hope it will have audience's abs hurting from laughing as they wander out of the venue and back onto the streets of Edinburgh, telling everyone they know about the milkiest pigeons in the city!
Why Edinburgh?
The Edinburgh Festival Fringe is the largest arts festival in the world! Crazy right! It is where all your fave stand-ups and comedy actors started out and we hope to follow in their footsteps with this as the first small step. We will be performing at Just The Wee One at Just The Tonic - a fantastic venue that has been part of the festival for over 20 years (last year the venue hosted the likes of Daniel Sloss, John Robins and Jessie Cave!!! very cooool!)
Why do we need to raise all this dosh?
Well...taking a show up to Edinburgh is expensive and it is even more expensive as we are going to be there for the whole month. There's the cost of the venue, the insurance and of course the vast expenses that go towards accommodation as those pesky landlords have worked out how to make their millions from all of us trying to make it as creatives and comedians..! Anything you can give at all will really really help us in making sure that we can continue doing this after the summer. This is not just a rogue sudden decision to take a show up for the whole month, instead, the five of us really hope that this can be the beginning of something. We are all extremely passionate about making good comedy, making people laugh and working together to do these things. As we all end our time at university we are hopefully (and ever so slightly terrifiedly...!) looking forward to the future. We hope that this month in Edinburgh can be the start of something really exciting.
Do get in touch via [email protected] if you have any questions at all for us.
We appreciate the support so so much and are so bloody excited for the summer.
Thank you,
Arran, Conor, Katie, Hollie and Emily xxxx
