MAYHEW

RCN 1077588, London

Mayhew is an animal welfare charity working to improve the lives of dogs, cats and the people in our communities – at our Home in London and internationally.

MAYHEW

For nearly 140 years, Mayhew has been here, right at the heart of the communities in which we work providing a lifeline to thousands of dogs and cats in need. Our focus has always been on keeping pets and owners together through a broad range of pro-active, community-based welfare, veterinary, rescue and rehoming services in the UK and overseas. We also care for hundreds of lost and abandoned cats and dogs at our shelter each year until they find their forever homes.

Sadly, it has not been an easy time for animal welfare charities, here or abroad. The prevailing economic and social conditions in which we are all living affect our work daily. Like our peers in the sector, we are seeing soaring demand for our services, rising costs, and challenges in sourcing adopters and foster carers.

We are continuing to see first-hand how the cost of living is causing unimaginable harm and strain for pet owners, who are increasingly having to make stark choices.

At the same time, as a charity relying entirely on the generosity of the public to fund our work, we are feeling the pressure as scores of people feel less able to give to the causes they love in these challenging times. Each day at Mayhew costs more than £7,500 – when you’re caring for the number of dogs and cats we’re currently looking after, it all adds up.
