This year marks the Manchester Revue’s fifth year in a row performing at the Edinburgh Fringe - an incredible milestone considering how far the society has already come. In the first year of the fringe, the Manchester Revue had a brilliant sell out run. In 2023, the Derek awards gave the Manchester Revue 5 stars, naming them "brilliantly funny". And last year Broadway Baby declared the Manchester Revue as "the funniest sketch group [they've] seen at the Fringe for years."
We are now proud to compete with long-established sketch groups such as the Cambridge Footlights and the Oxford Revue. This year, we’re thrilled to be performing at the Cowgate 'JustTheTonic Legends' venue with a uniquely Mancunian show - inspired by real-life toilet graffiti found around Manchester. Some examples that sparked our sketches include "Ugly <3" and "Tall girls rule."
Most importantly, we have a brilliant team of actors and creatives: Lily Lyon, Isla Campbell, Hope Briggs, Martha Pardue, Elise Lane, Thea Barnes, Aidan Concancon, and Lizzy Rackstraw.
However, the thing that has not worked in our favour this year is the financing. Rising costs have made taking a show to the Fringe more expensive than ever. Accommodation costs have risen sharply this year, with some places quoting up to £9,000 for a two-week stay, making it even harder for young artists to take part in the Fringe. We've been working hard to raise funds - including a collaboration show with the Leeds Tealights, a bingo night with drag acts and prizes, and a Manchester preview show in early June. Despite our efforts though, we still need your support. That’s why we’ve launched this crowdfunder.
