We're still collecting donations
On the 28th May 2023 we'd raised £435 with 15 supporters in 42 days. But as every pound matters, we're continuing to collect donations from supporters.
We're fundraising for a short run of our role-reversed re-imagined Magic Flute [Die Zauberflöte], performed by a majority LGBTQ+ company.

Our Story:
The Curious Opera Company was born out of a desire to challenge the traditional landscape and limitations of gender in classical music and to give developing professional singers the freedom to work with role-reversal to tackle issues including sexism, racism, and elitism. We want to push the boundaries of what contemporary opera can look and sound like. The heart of our work is inclusion and innovation and we really care about telling stories that resonate with life today - pushing back against the belief that opera has to be elitist.
We are early-on in our journey, and this is why we need you. With your help we can produce 2-3 nights of this first version of The Magic Flute, allowing our team to explore the work and create something magical for audiences, as well as setting us up to seek potential future funding to continue the project on a larger scale. With a team coming from lower-socio economic backgrounds, we really want to show that opera can be enjoyed by and made by everybody.
How you can help:
Any donations are appreciated - no amount is too small. If you can spare us the cost of a cup of coffee, it would make our day! If everybody we knew could even donate just £1, we'd be in an amazing place.
Your support means we can pay our venue costs (our ideal venue is the Kings Head Theatre, known for its history of producing LGBTQ+ work), including rehearsal space - which are our biggest costs right now.
We also aim to raise some money for costumes, and payment to share between the artists involved.
If you can't help financially but can offer an in-kind support, or can share this page with somebody who can help - we hugely appreciate that too!
Let's make some magic [flute]!
