Hello and Thank you for taking the time to look at our campaign !

Welcome to our fundraising campaign for 'The Long Train', a Short film centred around Ivy St Clare and her journey to see her sick dad at the hospital.

Here's a short breakdown of everyone involved and how you could also be apart of it with your help. Thank you for taking the time and checking us out. Our director/writer/ producer is Mollie Latham, our 1st AD is Hannah Walker, our cinematographer is Rico St Helene, our editor is Christy Lauren and our composer is Pierre Catherine Buffet. We as a team want to produce an authentic film.

The Film is due to come out in May 2025 showcasing at the BFI in London

  • Synopsis

Ivy St Clare is a confident queer woman, she is very well organised and knows exactly what she’s doing, but this situation is different. She is running for a train, she is messy, she doesn’t want to do this thing, and worst of all, she misses the train she needed. Ivy is not always this way, but today is the day she is going to the hospital to tell her dad how he made her feel all those years ago when she came out. She was harassed and bullied just for loving someone, and today she’s going to tell him everything, she just has to get there first.

After missing the train, she has to wait for the next one, however it's not that easy, the next train is delayed and she doesn’t know when the next one will come. But, she’s not alone in waiting, after a text from her brother distracts her and she drops her bag and items fall out, she meets Nellie Rose. She has enchanting blue eyes, and even though their first encounter is awkward, this is the start of a developing friendship. They have no idea when the next train will come, so they start talking and find out different things about each other.

At the hospital, Ivy’s younger brother Calum impatiently waits for her and checks with the nurses if they’ve seen a woman. They however haven’t, therefore he sends Ivy a message. All the while, their dad isn’t bothered much if she comes or not.

Over the course of the film we flash between the hospital and train station, ultimately wondering if Ivy will make it in time to tell her dad how he made her feel all those years ago.

  • Directors Statement

When it came to the idea for The Long Train it was important for me to showcase that you don’t have to keep people in your life if they aren’t good for you, being that mentally or physically. My story discusses major topics such as homophobia, mental health, and illness, alongside having a guiding figure for the main character who helps her understand that she doesn’t have to forgive someone for being horrible.

I wanted to highlight the difficulty some people have when coming out, which is very relatable, as well as having mental health be a factor of needing to excuse yourself from the situation if it's in your best interest. In my story we follow Ivy who is very confident in her sexuality when it comes to herself, however when it comes to other people, she has a hard time with it. This is mainly her dad, due to the fact that he made himself the victim, which resulted in her getting harassed and bullied by others. But, due to him having an illness, it leads her to having to talk to him about how he made her feel. I wanted to talk about these topics in relation to each other because even though he is sick, it doesn’t mean she, or anyone else needs to let go of what happened in the past if it has affected them, therefore, my story is about people moving on on their own terms.

  • Budget

Overall were looking for around £350 to cover expenses such as travel and food and any additional money funded will go to providing better equipment throughout the duration of the shoot.
