Aim: I am fundraising to make a documentary of lesbian activism during the 1970's and 80's, talking to the women that were there
Hi, my name is Di Winn and I am fundraising to make a documentary of lesbian activism during the 1970's and 80's, talking to the women that were there, most often leading the way, and working for the good of all women and girls, not just lesbians.
In the 1980's lesbians did turn the torch on themselves for a short while, creating the Lesbian Strength marches, but they didn't turn their backs on other women, and also took the time to battle with their gay brothers over Section 28, and nurse their gay brothers during the AIDS crisis.
Lesbians are once again holding Lesbian Strength marches in Leeds, and it is important to document these times and have them archived for the future lesbians to see the strength and activism of their lesbian sisters.
As a lesbian myself, and a boots on the ground activist, it saddens me that the women on whose shoulders I enjoy my rights and am able to stand proud as a lesbian, are all ageing and will soon no longer be with us to have their extraordinary stories documented and saved for the future.
I plan to launch the documentary on the 25th April 2026 and I am looking for help, not only to complete the project, but also to hold a one-day lesbian conference in the north of England, where the documentary will premiere.
I need assistance with the costs of the conference venue and equipment. I have covered most of the costs of the filming and editing of the documentary out of my own pocket, but the venue is a step too far for me on my own.
If you are a lesbian, or a lesbian-ally, please make a donation and help me make the lives of the brave women I feature last for all of time with their stories documented and archived.
Thank you
