The Hygiene Bank wish to secure storage facilities to become a resource centre for local charities to access for essential hygiene products

by Community Champions Food and Pre-loved hub in Carshalton, England, United Kingdom

The Hygiene Bank is a nationwide charity who have been working tirelessly through an army of volunteers to help eradicate hygiene poverty. The Hygiene Bank was established by Lizzy Hall as a direct response to the poverty she witnessed in her community. Since then it has grown to a large network of dedicated volunteers and drop off points for the public to donate toiletries. These are then collected and redistributed to local charities to pass on to the those who are in need. Many of these families are living on or below the bread line where there has to be a choice between food or hygiene.

Thanks to a recent partnership with Boots UK, The Hygiene Bank is in desperate need of storage facilities. Space comes at a premium and many smaller groups simply cannot afford to store the items that they need as funds must be directed to more vital areas. The Hygiene Bank wish to become a resource centre for all local charities and groups to use, whether they need nappies or sanitary products, there will be a library of things for them to access, to achieve this goal, they need to have the appropriate facilities in place.

Community Champions was formed in March 2020 to help the community during the Covid 19 pandemic. Since our story began we have evolved with the needs of the community. When our neighbours could not get groceries, we would go out of our way to supply them. When PPE orders were delayed we fundraised to be able to support the smaller organisations and provided them with medical grade equipment. When charity shops were closed and the easy option was the landfill, Community Champions began collecting donations and found new partnerships to distribute donations to those in need.

Community Champion volunteers will be hosting Community Mask Trees to help fundraise. A Community Mask Tree is a nationwide initiative where volunteers come together to sew face masks to offer to the local community and the general public. Community Champions volunteers will be sewing face masks and other items to help The Hygiene Bank raise their goal of £5000 to secure facilities for them to continue their work into the future.
