GIRL KISSER
A NEW SAPPHIC PLAY COMING TO CAMDEN FRINGE THIS SUMMER. OH, AND THERE’S FEMMES PLAYING GUITAR.
@girlkisserplay on instagram.THE PLAY
At the start of their adult lives, six Girl Kissers try love. The result is complex with addictive hookups, innocent discoveries and the lines of friendship being blurred. Backdropped by the East London music scene and Gen-Z's struggle for employment and belonging, there's sapphics and parties and kissing and dancing galore.
THE CABARET
Join us on the 22nd of April at Islington Arts Club for a night full of networking, queer music and art, and a DJ playing Girl Pop hits. You don't want to miss it!Ticket link will appear here shortly!
ABOUT THE COMPANY
GIRL KISSER marks the first collaboration between 224 Theatre and THE GIRL KISSER PROJECT, and a new venture into the world of gig-theatre.In the autumn of 2024, we posed some questions to the queer community:‘What does it mean to be a girl in 2024? What does it mean to be gay in 2024?,’ and with the perspective of over 50 Gen-Z queer people who shared their stories and desires,‘Girl Kisser’ was created.
WHY NOW?
Our research found that while the popularity of lesbianism in current culture has felt encouraging, many of you are still longing for more representation in art, that is authentic and created without the male gaze in mind. The term Lesbian Renaissance has been coined to refer to the boom of lesbian media being enjoyed by all types of people. The renaissance offers a new perspective on female queerness, where we can rage about relationships, marvel in the joys of community and fully be ourselves. You won’t be able to resist the ‘Femininomenon.’
HOW YOU CAN HELP
Do you share our values in celebrating female love stories? Do you feel passionate about having your story heard and represented on the stage? Is it important to you that lesbian acceptance stops being a trend and becomes cemented into our everyday lives? You can help make a difference in the lives of young queer people, who without the representation we are trying to achieve, often feel lost in their own identities.Your kind donations will help fund not only the play, but evenings of music and community and further research to platform queer voices. Your donations will contribute to payment for the queer artists involved in creating this play, covering costs of the Camden Fringe, and allow us to expand our reach through cabaret nights and queer events.While we are working to secure funding, the support of kind people like you is what will really make this project happen! Any support would be greatly appreciated, and if you aren’t in a position to be able to donate, just sharing the word of the project and Crowdfunded would mean the world.
